Portal 2 Delayed, Yet Not Valve-Like Delayed

Posted by

How would a game made by Valve be any good if it wasn't delayed at least 2 times over the course of its development? It wouldn't, so to keep their tradition rolling, Valve announced a slight delay for Portal 2, and that slight means 2 months. Remember, this is Valve, so judging by their notion of time, 2 months is like 5 minutes. What this means is that Portal 2 will be released on 18th of April 2011 instead of February 9th.

Valve's opinion on the matter: "This two month slip not only marks the shortest delay in Valve's proud tradition of delays, it represents the approaching convergence of Valve Time and Real Time. Though this convergence spells doom for humanity, it will not affect the new Portal 2 release date."

NFS Hot Pursuit Will Not Have A Story

Posted by

Criterion had an epiphany and realized that racing games do not need a storyline, since you know, it's about cars and stuff, so instead of trying to make something up they simply didn't. The game's title tells us all we need to know: there will be racers and there will be cops. As racers we'll have to outrun the cops, and as cops we'll have to bust the racers. No drama, no nothing. Here are some of Mark Webster's words(senior producer at Criterion):

"We didn't really think it was necessary to include a story. If you're a cop, the aim is to go up the ranks, while a racer's aim is to get to the highest rank they can.

There is a full Career of events. As a racer, you have Time Trials, Races and Hot Pursuits, whereas as a cop you have Rapid Responses, Hot Pursuits and Interceptors. So yeah, there is a chunk of gameplay for the solo player."

Crytek Is Working With The Government

Posted by

CryEngine 3 is a serious business.

You may think that video games are made by people who in their spare time go to ComiCon and have lovely picnics in parks, but the truth is that they are like any other people working in a major industry: at one point, the military comes demanding your services. This also means top secret stuff you are not allowed to share with your family, or the press for that matter.

Since Crytek develops one of the best graphic and physics engines out there, it was only a matter of time until the government and some other major companies became interested in making their simulations more hi-end. Allegedly they currently have seven studious under their umbrella, and the seventh is the one called "The Seventh Studio". Cevat Yerli spoke with Gamasutra and told them he is not allowed to say anything about this mysterious studio, since it's part of a military project. Here are some of his words:

Gay Space Marines Are The Real Problem of Today’s Video Games

Posted by

They could very well have their dicks out too, it makes no difference

I like it when someone with authority speaks up about the real issues in video games today. Usually, when this subject comes up most of the big guys in the industry sugar coat it and try to make us believe that everything is fine, as long as we keep buying games without paying attention to their flaws and most of all, prices.

But from time to time, a hero is born. A hero that, just like Neo in The Matrix, can see the real world as it is. Today, that hero's name is Denby Grace and he's the senior producer of Mafia 2 at 2K Games. He was giving an interview for MTV Multiplayer Blog when the following question arrived: "What is the real problem the games industry faces in 2010?".

His answer shook the foundation of our very reality, by being dangerously spot on: "It's a very good question and maybe a little general for a concise answer. An obsession with gay space marines."

Fellow gamers, the time has come. Our messiah is here, our wait has not been in vain. Raise your hands and pray, for the truth is finally out there.

Halo Reach

It looks like Halo Reach is out. Hurray. Dr. Alzh doesn't care for this game, and for a good reason: he hasn't got an Xbox 360. He's has nohing against it, it just happens to be like that. So no Halo Reach hype at our place. Get lost.

Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Is A Major Investment

Posted by

You may not have heard about it, but Blizzard is also working on a big new online franchise besides the next Starcraft 2 episodes and Diablo 3. Emphasize on big, because that's the key word Activision is trying to utter. Bobby Kotick called this project "an enormous investment", putting it side by side with their other big investment at Bungie. Yes it's Kotick, yes he's a money grabbing whore but still, we're talking Blizzard over here so there must be some truth to his words.

Starcraft II – It Will Make You A Man

Posted by

I love RTS games. I love the strategic aspect, the management, the mini wars and all that stuff. Strangely enough, I'm not by any means an RTS guru. I think the only ones I've played extensively are Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and Pikmin. Yeah, that's right, Pikmin. I'm a man just for admitting that.

But here we are in August of 2010 and we are just about a week after the release of StarCraft II, the sequel to one of, if not THE most popular RTS games. It may as well be titled StarCraft to me, because I barely played the original. I was lucky enough to have a friend that donated their 7 hour trial that came with his copy of StarCraft II. I've got about an hour left and, honestly, I need to pick up this game this weekend. After playing the shit and piss out of some campaign and multiplayer, I learned a very important lesson about myself that many other newcomers probably learned at the exact same time. This lesson being "Holy shit, I'm not Korean". I also learned this game takes some serious practice.

5 Games That Failed(When They Shouldn’t Have)

Posted by

Sometimes, video games fail. Bugs, awful gameplay, shitty story, bad controls and so on. It's a natural thing, not all video games get to be big and get people out on the street enduring rain just get a copy of it. Sometimes though, you'd expect a certain game to be good, for various reasons: a good prequel, some nice trailer you saw, or an awesome marketing campaign that got you all wet. But then you get your hands on it and you realize it sucks. Big time. How does that make you feel? Ashamed that you trusted the developers? A sucker for falling into the hype trap? Whatever it is you feel, we all went through it, especially in this last year. Here are five games that took us all by surprise with their outstanding shittyness and a sheer amount of disappointment.

StarCraft 2 might melt your PC… but not anymore!

Posted by

If your computer is still in one piece and not on fire, you are in the group with the lucky ones who didn't suffer from the Blizzard's negligence to optimize the 3D menus. Apparently, the framerates in the menu are not limited by default, and they can cause heavy load on the system, with all the 3D blitz and eye candy that the menu has.

Fear no more though, you can manually fix this issue by accessing the text file at "Documents\StarCraft II\variables.txt" and add the following lines:

frameratecapglue=30
frameratecap=60

In other news, the 1.0.1 patch has just been released, and it includes the following changes:

* Campaign saves have been optimized.
* Fixed an issue with sound not playing on some 7.1 systems.

Thanks ActionTrip for the tip.
