Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Is A Major Investment

You may not have heard about it, but Blizzard is also working on a big new online franchise besides the next Starcraft 2 episodes and Diablo 3. Emphasize on big, because that's the key word Activision is trying to utter. Bobby Kotick called this project "an enormous investment", putting it side by side with their other big investment at Bungie. Yes it's Kotick, yes he's a money grabbing whore but still, we're talking Blizzard over here so there must be some truth to his words.

He also said "But with the recognition that the way to build them is take long amounts of time, lots of capable talent, an enormous amount of capital and you have to have a real roadmap for innovation and creativity. And I think that those are going to be two very good examples from the ground up original ideas."

There you have it, Bobby Kotick Beelzebub talking about creativity and innovation, probably while grinning and sharpening his devil's fork made of orphan babies souls. Now, what could this new game be? A new World of Warcraft? Perhaps a World of Starcraft maybe? A while ago Blizzard said that it is going to be a totally new universe, which is kind of amazing since they haven't done anything original for 12 years or so.

The good thing is, it may be Bobby Kotick financing this project, but it's Blizzard who works on it so I have faith in whatever it's going to be. Unless Kotick has an evil plan to integrate a mind control device into the game and make everyone on earth go out to buy Modern Warfare 2, and the Infinity Ward employers to go back to work with no pay.

  1. It still confuses me why Blizzard would need Acitivision to finance a game when Blizzard makes $2 billion each year.

  2. This will be Blizzards first implementation of a new franchise since the release of Starcraft I. I just hope they don’t screw up another great game with more awkward over the top dysfunctional security.
